Deep Roots as a builder

Sherrell Futral and Woody Warren founded Bluewater in 1986 with the overnight success of its first subdivision Bluewater Bay. They have continued to develop premier communities throughout coastal North Carolina; including Bluewater Banks, Walnut Place, Cape Point and Bluewater Cove. In addition to these residential developments, Bluewater Builders has built hundreds of custom homes for a private residences, as well as re-sale and rental investments.

Sherrell and Woody’s backgrounds in construction originated in the 1970s with their respective building companies. Over the years, the company has built a strong reputation of paying attention to details and being there for their customers throughout all phases of the construction process. For those out of town clients, Bluewater Builders staff stay in close contact with pictures and e-mail throughout the construction process.

Bluewater Builder’s business is one half vacation homes, the other half primary residences. While the larger share of the homes are upscale custom homes, the company handles a wide range of projects. Selling prices vary from $80,000 to nearly $2 million.

At any price point, building on the coast takes specialized expertise due to increased requirements for permitting and items such as storm water control, septic systems and structural requirements. These have made construction more technical, and Bluewater has some of the best resources in their field to handle these issues, and these include experienced personnel. Bluewater’s framing crews are comprised of long-term employees, not subcontractors. Some have worked with Bluewater for more than 20 years.
